Even at the end of February, brisk demand for softwood sawlogs in southern and western Germany is coinciding with an inadequate supply. Whereas felling in public forests is largely going according to plan and there have recently been reports of a brisker pace of felling activity in local authority forests as well, green timber felling in private forests has still not managed to get into gear properly yet. In the last few weeks the situation has only been made worse by weather-related obstructions that have occurred in timber harvesting and removal operations, sometimes even into the lowlands.
