FROM floorcoveringweekly.com: The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that retail sales fell 0.3 percent in December. Although economists were forcasting a gain of 0.5 percent, retail sales were up 5.4 percent from December 2008.
Electronics sales were down 1 percent in December from a month earlier; food and drinks fell by 1.4 percent and sales at clothing stores were 2.5 percent lower, the Commerce Department said.
Sales for all of 2009 fell 6.2 percent compared with 2008 to $4.14 trillion, the largest decline on record.
