Its reported that, about 1,668 batch of lumber was imported in Heilongjiang Suifenhe Port in the first five months of 2008, up 210% over the same period of 2007. The import volume of lumber amounted to 110,494 m2, up 59%; and the import value topped about US$693.5million, which increased by 57.8%.

There are many reasons which caused the rise of lumber imports in Suifenhe Port:

First, Russia is in abundance with the forest resources. Besides, Irkutsk is the declared lumber processing base in Russia, which increased the lumber imports month by month;

Second, Russia begun to cancel the lumber tariffs to encourage companies to export lumber to China;

Third, Chinese wood companies invested in Russia was put into production gradually.
