According to the statistics from Manzhouli custom, the import volume of wood from Russia in Manzhouli Port was 901,000 m3 in May 2008, down 25.8% compared with the same period of last year; import value amounted to US$120 billion, Up 0.5%; the average import price was 134.8 US$/m3, up 35.4%.
Log imports from Russia in Manzhouli port was 793,000 m3 in April of this year, down 29.5%, which accournted for 88% of the total. Timber imports hit 108,000 m3, up 20.5%. It’s reported that, the small trading was the main way of trading in Manzhouli port, however, the import volume of wood by the way of small trading from Russia in Manzhouli port was 882,000m3, down 25%, which accounted for 97.9% of the total imported wood. Companies in the Inner Mongolia were the main importers of Russia wood materials. In April of 2008, companies in the Inner Mongolia imported about 853,000 of wood from Russia, down 25% compared with last year, which accounted for 94.7% of the total; companies in Heilongjiang province imported about 35,000 m3, down 13.4%.
At present, to promote the development of wood industry in Russia, Russia government increased export tariff step by step to adjust the wood export structure. Since April 1st of this year, wood export tariff in Russia has increased by 25%. Its reported that, in January of 2009, the wood export tariff will further increase by 80%, as well as the export of timber will enjoy no customs.
