Guangdong furniture industry plays an important role in the national furniture market. However, the development and adjustment of Guangdong furniture industry experience in 2009 under the international financial crisis and the develop trends in 2010 have become the focus of wood industry. With the questions above , the journalist of China Wood International Inc. interviewed with Zhang Chengzhi, the Deputy Secretary-General of Guangdong Furniture Association.
Q: How about the change of enterprise numbers, product sales and export volume in 2009 compared with 2008?
A: After international economic crisis in 2008 and 2009, furniture enterprise in Guangdong Province decreased by 400, which gave way to the internal structure adjustment and industrial restructuring, and led to the better development for excellent companies.
In recent years, the total of export furniture in Guangdong Province were decreasing slowly, however, the total export value changed little, which indicated the improvement of products value, technological and design level. The total export value in 2008 was $11.5 billion and the value in first half year was higher than the second half year. While in 2009, the export showed better in the second half year. The total export value for the year was expected to be $10.8 billion. Besides, the domestic market demand was very strong in 2009 because of the national policy of stimulating domestic demand. Compared with 2008, the sales value increased 15% to RMB 1,200 billion.
Q: How about the Guangdong furniture sales curve in 2009 and the reasons?
A: Furniture sales in Guangdong in 2009 showed stable upward trend. But in the first quarter, both export and domestic sales dropped to the bottom attribute to the effect of finance crisis on consumption desire of average families. Foreign buyers didnt reserve orders until they sold the inventories and saw the recovery of market.
The China (Guangzhou) International Furniture Fair in March 2009 (hereinafter referred to as Guangzhou Furniture Fair) can clearly prove that. In the fair, there was less amount in each purchase order from foreign purchaser, but the total foreign purchase orders were increased, which indicated most buyers take the wait and see attitude. Thus, March can be seen as a test for the whole furniture market and the future consumer trends.
